" I thrive in communities that embrace diversity, particularly diversity of backgrounds. Every interaction in such a community fuels my curiosity, allowing me to better understand individuals and their moral values. These insights often contribute to the development of my own work: by listening to others’ stories about their educational experiences, I can identify what has proven effective in different contexts and apply those lessons to strengthen my own project. Since the Millennium Fellowship unites people within such a community, I hope to gain valuable insights and discover new opportunities for growth and development in my project. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Let's get social!
My project, “Let’s get social!”, focuses on advocating for the introduction of formal social sciences, such as economics, psychology, and political science, into the Polish High School Curriculum. Through a multi-platform social media campaign, I aim to raise awareness of the benefits and necessity of a strong education to improve civic literacy, critical thinking, and understanding of policy-making. The project directly supports SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting accessible knowledge and civic skills. It addresses the gap between High School and University Education, where students who follow a degree in Social Sciences are often unprepared for their degree and have little to no understanding of social dynamics.
Deliverables of the projects are:
- Social Media Educational Materials: Series of informative posts and iconographics across different social media platforms. - Partnerships: Collaboration with other NGOs and social movements to put a common effort into achieving change.
- Curricula: Develop a plan for potential curricula based on the educational systems in other countries. - Interviews: Planned interviews with other advocates and important individuals in the education sector.
About the Millennium Fellow
Lukasz Bacewicz is a very creative, energetic, and innovative student at Minerva University in San Francisco. Originally from Węgorzewo, Poland, he pursued his high school education at boarding schools—first in Toruń, and then for his final two years in Ellesmere, UK. His diverse educational experiences became a source of inspiration and sparked many late-night discussions with his peers about the quality of education. These reflections led to his active participation and deep engagement in the Polish project EDU 2.0, which collaborates with key institutions to improve students’ learning experiences and overall well-being through various programs. This initiative aligns closely with the achievement of Goal 4: Quality Education.
