Millennium Fellowship Project: Shielding communities while saving lives

I as Emily Muthoni would like to start a project of fumigation which mainly focuses on reducing the vector borne diseases such as malaria ,leishmaniasis( caused by sandflies),lymphatic filariasis ( mosquito)and trypanosoma ( caused by tsetseflies). Fumigation when correctly implemented can reduce the vector populations while interrupting the disease transmission cycle. My project mainly focuses on educating mass population on the importance of fumigation that is in the regions with high vector populations .I will also focus on the vectors that cause nuisance in the population .I will first start with mapping the vector breeding sites after following the epidemiology of the diseases mentioned above and like malaria which is a high prevalent disease in Siaya ,Homabay and Kisumu.75 percent of Kenya is at risk from the mosquito causing malaria in kenya .I specifically chose this project because October to December are the highest peak seasons of malaria spread in Kenya .So after mapping the areas we will conduct fumigation campaigns in the fumigation targeted areas ,while educating the mass population on the diseases while also educating the people who will carry out the fumigation on how to map the targeted parasite location while also monitoring and evaluation.
