" Networking and learning more on my social work skills. I believe each and every Millennium Fellow looks forward towards creating social stability and social wellbeing to individuals, groups, families and communities. I myself have that drive which pushed me to become a social work student. I am excited to become a Millennium Fellow too because i get to meet, interact and learn from people with the same goal and ambition as mine. This will add to my efficiency hugely and my skills which will eventually make me impactful in the social field and positively influence my career. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Voices Against Child Sexual Assault
This project aims to advocate for the rights of protection of children against all forms of child abuse particularly sexual assault. Also recognizing the victims of sexual assault and offering survivor support to them. The project will also address communities and increase the awareness of people in communities as they are major tools for protection. In my project, i first want to create a group of similar minded individuals on this agenda, with whom we will work together in educating the young children from the age of 6-16 years old on how to protect themselves because at this point the ones supposed to protect them(parents, teachers and guardians) are sadly the common assaulters than strangers. This will be by hosting educational events, visiting schools and engaging with victims of assault confidentially and professionally to enable them to regain their spark. This engagement program will be of no age limit so as to also cater for older victims who are still traumatized. It will also involve massive use of social media platforms to educate and increase awareness to parents and every other person so that everyone is involved in protecting a child whether his or not his.
About the Millennium Fellow
Marylin Mollel is a young ambitious girl born and raised in Tanzania and was privileged to do university in Kenya particularly at Mount Kenya University. She has always been a social girl, Marylin loves people and this adds alot to her empathy and urge to always make sure everyone around her is well kept and able to function without any barriers. Growing up with this passion, Marylin chose to major in social work studies while in university so that she can exercise her passion more professionally and meet a larger population. Again, she is a young girl who is very open to learning by networking and association. She needs an active and influential platform outside class activities. This is because she is somehow limited towards making major impacts due to insufficiency. When exposed to people and organizations with the same drive, Marylin will be very impactful in her social work career and more.
