" Violence against women is not cultural, it’s criminal. Equality cannot come eventually—it’s something we must fight for now. Being in the Millennium Fellowship is exciting for me because I get to meet and interact with other people who share the same vision as I do and focusing on SGD 5 as one is definitely bound to create impact. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowering Her

The project is aimed at empowering women and standing with women who have been abused in one way or the other. It is about calling out the government to serve justice for all the fallen women.

My target audience is mainly the youth aged 15–24 years, young adults, and the government. In line with my goals, during the period of my project I have seen more women coming out to call out injustices done to them, promoting gender equality and justice.

About the Millennium Fellow

Lilian Muthoni is a young, disciplined and ambitious medical student in Kenya. Born and raised in Embu county, attended high school in Baringo county, and now a student Moi University College of Health Sciences, she has truly explored her country. Her experience may be limited to her home country, but she holds a vision many young people especially, women would vouch for. She sees her country as a safe space for women, where they would walk freely instead of walking around with pepper sprays because any moment can be the end. She also sees a country that will punish the perpetrators of GBV without any delays, because for her justice delayed is justice denied.
