" Becoming a Millennium Fellow excites me because it gives a platform for young people like me, to be architects of change and transformation. This platform allows me to sharpen my leadership, amplify my voice and help drive progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals at large. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Youth Interfaith Dialogue
The project brings Young Individuals from diverse religious and cultural background under one roof. Through constructive dialogues we aim to find our intersectionality ,rather than focusing on our differences . A typical dialogue question is , "Religion and environmental stewardship",we unveil the sacred scriptures or practices from particular religion pertaining the theme. After that we walk the talk (taking the discussion into action i.e Tree planting ,Cleanup Drives ). The very first step is to establish Peace and Co-existance.
About the Millennium Fellow
Bisani Abu-Turab is a dynamic, visionary and charismatic young leader currently in his third year of pursuing a degree in Sociology and Social Policy at Midlands State University. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Harare before relocating to Gweru in the Midlands region, he has consistently demonstrated a deep passion for social advocacy and tackling societal challenges.
From his high school days, Abu-Turab has been actively engaged in youth development, volunteering and driving initiatives that inspire change. His passion knows no borders; he envisions communities where young people play a leading role in shaping inclusive, just and sustainable futures.
In 2023, during his second year at Midlands State University, he founded the Youth Interfaith Dialogue Club, a groundbreaking platform that fosters unity, understanding and collaboration across different faiths. Officially launched in late 2024, the club has already drawn remarkable partnerships with influential stakeholders, including the MSU Student Affairs Department (Student Development Office, Chaplaincy Department and Counselling Department), Gweru CID Drugs and Narcotics Section, Msasa Project, Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) and the Gweru Islamic Society.
Beyond this, Abu-Turab has played an active role in numerous university clubs and societies, contributing to thriving projects as both a strategist and an organiser. His leadership continues to be defined by his ability to mobilise, collaborate and execute initiatives that address pressing societal needs.
Today, Abu-Turab is honoured to join the Millennium Fellowship, a milestone that represents both recognition and opportunity. He is eager to harness this platform to showcase and refine his leadership, expand his impact and contribute meaningfully to advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on a global scale.
