Midlands State University | Gweru, Zimbabwe | Advancing SDG 5, SDG 8, SDG 10 & UNAI 3

" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it offers a powerful platform to amplify the impact of the work being done to promote justice and education worldwide. This fellowship connects change makers committed to dismantling barriers and creating equitable opportunities. The mission to empower individuals—especially young girls—to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams with confidence is one that transcends any one person. Together, through collaboration and shared learning, we can foster lasting change that not only transforms education but also addresses systemic injustices to build a fairer and more inclusive society for all. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: EmpowerEd Zim
EmpowerEd Zim is a Millennium Fellowship project advancing SDG 4 by creating collaborative, high-quality educational resources and career guidance materials for Zimbabwean youth. It empowers teachers and students through shared lesson plans, tailored content, and scalable digital platforms, addressing resource gaps with community-driven solutions.
EmpowerEd Zim advanced through hands-on tutoring of 20+ students, gathering teacher input to conceptualize the shared resource pool, maintaining the reading club on track, and initiating career guidance frameworks for 2026 rollout.
Goals vs. Accomplishments
- **Target:** Engage 50 teachers in resource pool; workshops; reach 1,000 students via shared materials and career tools.
- **Achieved:** Conducted tutoring sessions building student confidence; consulted 10+ teachers to fully map resource pool structure (lesson plans, confidence-building guides); sustained reading club operations; prototyped career guidance modules (e.g., career exposure sessions) ready for full implementation next year. Progress was qualitative and foundational, not scaled quantitatively.
