UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT HABEN HALEFOM TETEMKE, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2025.
Mekelle University | Mekelle, Ethiopia | Advancing SDG 4, SDG 10 & UNAI 3

" My work is driven by the conviction that sustainable peace is built upon the foundation of community well-being and health equity. Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship will provide the critical leadership skills and collaborative framework to put this belief into practice. The knowledge and network I gain will make my social impact on peace-building in communities like Tigray more tangible and aligned with the UNAI principles and SDGs, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). I am excited to develop the competency to build grassroots initiatives that foster both healing and security. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Tigray HIV Awareness Project
My project, the Tigray HIV Awareness Project, addresses the urgent public health crisis following the conflict in Tigray, where HIV infection rates have surged and access to care has been disrupted. The project focuses on raising awareness and providing crucial information about HIV transmission, prevention, and treatment. We aim to empower the community by creating a safe and informed environment, encouraging people to get tested and return to essential care. We will achieve this through targeted campaigns in schools, community discussions, and collaborative efforts with local health workers.
By the end of the Millennium Fellowship period (August-December 2025), our measurable goals are to:
Conduct at least five awareness campaigns in schools, reaching a minimum of 500 students.
Organize two community discussion forums to address stigmas and misconceptions about HIV, engaging at least 150 community members.
Establish partnerships with three local health clinics to facilitate a direct pathway for community members to access testing and treatment services.
Increase the number of people seeking HIV testing or resuming treatment at our partner clinics by 20% by the end of the project period.
