Millennium Fellowship Project: UV-SAFISHA WATER PURIFIERS
Uv-Safisha aims to make safe drinking water accessible to vulnerable communities by producing and distributing solar-powered water purifiers. The project focuses on serving refugees in settlements and rural communities who lack reliable access to clean water. During the initial phase, the project accomplished business registration, patent registration, and the development of the first prototype.
About the Millennium Fellow
Ahumuza Bill is a Ugandan innovator, environmental advocate, and social entrepreneur from Makerere University Business School, best known for leading Safisha Water Purifiers a youth-led initiative providing affordable, solar-powered, portable water purification solutions to underserved communities. His work addresses climate change, environmental degradation, and limited access to clean drinking water, combining technical innovation with community engagement and partnerships. Supported by Junior Achievement Uganda, the Z Zurich Foundation, and the beVisioneers Fellowship, Safisha is advancing toward commercialization and wider distribution. Bill’s approach delivers practical, cost-effective solutions that empower vulnerable populations, improve health and livelihoods, and promote a more sustainable and equitable future.
