Malawi University of Science and Technology | Thyolo, Malawi | Advancing SDG 4, SDG 1 & UNAI 3
" I'm excited to join the Millennium Fellowship because no student should feel the shame I did when I first faced a university computer. This program will help me turn my struggles at Chichiri Secondary into solutions for schools like South lunzu CDSS equipping students with real digital skills to sustain this change. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Youth Empowerment Project
The project was set to encourage students in secondary schools in our community to remind them of the value of education, but also motivate them to continue pursuing their studies. We would give them tips on how to succeed in school, but also given them direction on their road to further studies.
About the Millennium Fellow
Jonathan Zimunya is a third year Mathematical Science student at Malawi university of science and technology who remembers finishing Chichiri Secondary without ever using a computer. That first confusing year at university struggling with Word documents, panicking over emails showed Him how unfair Malawi's digital divide can be. Now he is starting Digital literacy program to change this. The project will teach students at schools like chilaweni CDSS and south lunzu CDSS and other. the practical computer skills they need for their school like how to safely use the internet with special attention for girls who often get excluded from tech. For Jonathan Zimunya this is not just a project it's fixing the problem he lived through.
