United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 60,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2025 on 7,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 290+ campuses worldwide (less than 5%) were selected to host the 4,500+ Millennium Fellows.

Millennium Fellowship Project: Climate Change for All
The project was aimed to sensitize the community about climate change and teach them how to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change. The target audience included students and people from the surrounding areas. I taught many people about climate change and then we executed activities mostly focused on waste management and sustainable agriculture. This included tree planting, waste decomposition, making compost fertilizer, and using other waste to support agricultural practices.
About the Millennium Fellow
Hastings Chimphangu, born in Lilongwe, Malawi, attended St. Paul’s Minor Seminary, where he served as Head Boy, sparking his passion for leadership. Selected to Mzuzu University, he has continued leading as Chairperson for St. Thomas Community, YCS, UNV, MZUNI Wildlife Club and other student organizations. Committed to advancing the SDGs in Malawi, Hastings integrates his leadership experience with his academic programme to drive community development, environmental conservation, and youth empowerment, inspiring others to take action for a sustainable future.
