Millennium Fellowship Project: Keep Heritage Alive
My Project titled "Keep Heritage Alive" is an ongoing project that focuses on discovering, developing and implementing Indigenous knowledge systems into present departments such as agriculture, medicine and overall well being. My projects understands that indigenous knowledge systems have practices that enhance these departments in a very sustainable way, inclusive to people of the less privileged, and in some cases healthier and safer. But this valuable knowledge is not focused on and very much less studied. During by time i have discovered that there is medicine made traditionally from natural resources and are used to treat diseases and these are mostly accessed by people who are unable to afford modern care. It has proved very effective for most diseases but is very under studied in the country. Therefore my project doesn't stop there, my goal is to proceed into scientific research and proofing of this medication as well broaden it to the agricultural sector to discover sustainable ways to produce agricultural products which will also be inclusive, sustainable and affordable. Also in lines with Keeping Heritage Alive, my projects seeks take on the educational sector as I progress, this is to implement the aspect of teaching in the indigenous languages in order for students to understand concepts easier. It has come to my attention that students fail to grasp concepts in physics, chemistry etc not because they can't but because they are not taught in their first language.
