UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT ALEXANDRA DIVYA SHOR, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2025.

" I am excited to be part of a group of like-minded peers in order to enhance the sustainable development goals. I hope the tools provided by the Millennium Fellowship will allow me to make a tangible impact on my local community and transcend into the greater worldwise of those affected. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: LanguageLink
My idea is to create a database that pairs up individuals based on their language learning goals. With the Massachusetts population being comprised of over 15% immigrants, and the Northeastern student body hosting the largest number of undergraduate international students in the United States, there is lots of room for connections to be made through the vehicle of language, yet with so many people, it can feel overwhelming and difficult to find people that share a linguistic connection unless you are part of a cultural affinity group. LanguageLink would seek to connect people that share a common language and goal. For example, an American student hoping to get better at a foreign language could connect with an international student fluent in that language who wants to practice their English. Individuals could choose the level of connection they want to their partner or group, whether simply occasional learning opportunities or turning this into an opportunity for lifelong friendship. In the future, I would hope to stretch this beyond my university community and connect people throughout the Boston area. This initiative is not just about learning a language but about bringing people together to form unexpected friendships.
About the Millennium Fellow
Alexandra (Sasha) Shor is a second year undergraduate student at Northeastern University studying behavioral neuroscience. She grew up in Seattle, Washington and attends school in Boston, Massachusetts. Sasha is passionate about connecting with others via languages and is fluent in English, French, Russian, and Spanish. With the world seeming increasingly more divided, she believes in the importance of promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding.
