Millennium Fellowship Project: Pakistan Women's Ice Hockey Initiative

My project, Team Pakistan Women, is a project that I am working on to empower Pakistani women, empower women in sports, and promote positive dialogue and relationships between women in sports of different cultures. Last year, I helped assemble the first Team Pakistan men’s hockey team to compete at an international tournament between different developing countries that do not normally have the opportunity to compete in hockey. This year, I have taken on the task of assembling a women’s team. I am attempting to create a community that will allow Pakistani women, who may have previously felt alone in the hockey community, to connect with others with similar experiences. I have worked to recruit about half of the team so far and we are so excited to keep finding more women to include in this project. After the full team is recruited, we are planning on competing in the 2025 Amerigol LATAM tournament against other women’s teams from places like Egypt, Brazil, Argentina, Israel, and many others. This is a tremendous opportunity for Pakistani women to connect and grow our presence in the sport and I hope to organize opportunities to connect with the women of other teams.
