" I am driven by the belief that sustainable change starts with empowered communities. As a Millennium Fellow, I'm excited to amplify my work in climate action, conservation, and youth engagement—transforming local challenges into global solutions for a healthier, more equitable future. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Kick-Off for Sustainable Future
Kick-Off for a Sustainable Future is a youth-led climate action initiative designed to tackle plastic pollution, deforestation, and poor waste management within Njala University and surrounding communities. The project combines awareness campaigns, hands-on training, and environmental clubs to educate students and residents about climate change and practical ways to protect their environment. Through school-based nature clubs, sustainability workshops, and a new greener garden space on campus, participants gain skills in recycling, tree planting, and climate-smart practices. These activities aim to shift behaviours, promote responsible waste management, and restore degraded areas through collective action.
By engaging more than 500 students and community members, the initiative empowers young people to become leaders in environmental stewardship. It also directly supports key global goals such as SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Through education, collaboration, and continuous community involvement, Kick-Off for a Sustainable Future seeks to build a lasting culture of sustainability and position Njala University as a model for climate resilience in Sierra Leone.
