" I believe law is a powerful tool to create equity and dignity for all, and being a Millennium Fellow excites me because it means joining a community that turns vision into action and change into possibility. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Jagrukta

Jagrukta is a legal literacy and awareness project designed to address the persistent gap between gender-based violence laws in India and public understanding of these protections. The initiative focuses on simplifying key Indian GBV legislation, particularly the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, into accessible educational materials, including comprehensive handbooks, informational posts, and multimedia awareness content. Through creative outputs such as skits, video narratives, and a GBV perceptions survey, Jagrukta aims to engage students and communities with the realities of domestic violence and the resources available to survivors. The project also includes a research paper proposing structural reforms for improved enforcement. Ultimately, Jagrukta seeks to make legal rights understandable, actionable, and survivor-centred, aligning with SDG 5 and SDG 16.
