" My father has been my truest inspiration. He has been actively working with the United Nations and, early in his career, with companies striving to implement sustainable practices. From childhood, I learned the importance of these values through small but lasting lessons, like him insisting I turn off taps and lights or choosing more expensive options simply because they were sustainable. These moments shaped my mindset and made sustainability second nature. The Millennium Fellowship is my opportunity to carry these lessons forward, amplify them through my work, and inspire others to embed sustainability into everyday choices. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Bridging The Gap in Tech

Walking into a tech space and realizing I'm one of the only women there is a feeling I know all too well. It makes me question, "Do I really belong here?" But when I see the few women who are leading I realize the issue isn’t that we aren’t good enough, but that we don’t see enough of us in these spaces to believe we belong. That’s why I started talking to my friends about it—and they felt the same way. This sparked the idea to take a more active role in tech societies like IEEE. I remember attending a Women in Engineering session, where hearing powerful women share their stories made me feel like I truly belong. I want to create that same feeling for others. I plan to host online speaker sessions with women from different stages—college seniors and professionals from top companies. Online events make it easier for more women to attend. But it won't stop at just listening—I want us to take action, too. We can start entering hackathons, attending industrial visits, and planning visits to govt high schools. We’ll share our experiences to inspire others. If it works, maybe we can even start a podcast.

About the Millennium Fellow

Shriya is a bright, determined student who soared to the 97th percentile in JEE Main 2025, competing among 1.31 million aspirants to earn her spot in her dream college. Born in one city but raised in five others, changing schools every 2 to 3 years with parents working abroad, she has embraced change, diversity, and friendships with effortless charm. Passionate about women in tech, she is thrilled to land this fellowship, seeing it as a chance to merge her skills with her commitment to sustainable goals she has grown up watching her parents champion. Already an active volunteer with NSS and IEEE through her college societies, she would love to work with her friends’ ideas, rally volunteers, inspire young women, and turn bold ideas into lasting impact.
