" “I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the opportunity to turn my concern for water scarcity into meaningful action, while learning and collaborating with passionate change makers from around the world.” "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Drop by Drop: Rainwater Harvesting
Rainwater Harvesting for Sustainable Water Management”** is a student-led initiative focused on addressing the growing challenge of water scarcity by promoting practical, low-cost solutions within educational institutions and local communities. The project aims to create awareness about declining freshwater resources while demonstrating how harvested rainwater can serve as an alternative source for non-drinking uses such as gardening, cleaning, and campus sanitation.
The initiative involves developing a simple rainwater harvesting model that can be adapted to rooftops and small buildings. Through research, demonstrations, and awareness sessions, the project educates students and community members about the importance of water conservation and the role individuals can play in reducing pressure on existing water supplies. The project aligns strongly with **SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation** and **SDG 13: Climate Action**, highlighting how climate resilience begins with local, sustainable practices.
By encouraging practical action and strengthening environmental responsibility among youth, the project aims to create long-term behavioral change. The vision is to inspire campuses and communities to adopt rainwater harvesting as a routine conservation method, contributing to a more water-secure and climate-resilient future.
