Millennium Fellowship Project: Learning Without Walls
Project Description: Learning Without Walls
Project Name: Learning Without Walls
What We Do:
Learning Without Walls is a mobile education initiative that brings classrooms directly to children in remote villages of Jhang,Pakistan. We transform donated vans into solar-powered, mobile learning centers that travel to underserved communities, providing basic education to children who cannot access formal schools.
How It Works:
· Mobile Classrooms: Customized vans equipped with learning materials, solar-powered tablets, and teaching aids
· Regular Schedule: Each village receives classes 3 times per week on a fixed schedule
· Local Teachers: We train community volunteers as educators to ensure cultural relevance and sustainability
· Technology Integration: Offline educational apps and digital resources powered by solar energy
· Flexible Timing: Classes scheduled around local farming seasons and family needs
Core Activities:
1. Operating mobile classroom vans on fixed routes
2. Training local volunteers as teachers
3. Providing literacy and numeracy lessons
4. Using solar-powered tablets for digital learning
5. Conducting regular learning assessments
6. Holding community awareness sessions about education importance
Target Impact:
· Immediate: Basic literacy and numeracy skills for 150+ children
· Short-term: Increased school enrollment and reduced dropout rates
· Long-term: Breaking cycles of poverty through education access
Unique Aspects:
· Community-Driven: Local volunteers ensure cultural sensitivity and sustainability
· Technology-Enabled: Solar-powered digital learning in areas without electricity
· Cost-Effective: Mobile model reaches multiple villages with minimal infrastructure
· Scalable: Easily replicable model for other rural areas
This initiative turns vehicles into vibrant learning spaces, ensuring that no child's education is limited by their geographic location or family circumstances.
About the Millennium Fellow
Aoun Raza is a dedicated student from Jhang, Pakistan, who is tackling educational inequality in his own community. After witnessing the lack of schools in his hometown rural areas, Aoun launched Learning Without Walls, his first social impact initiative. His project transforms donated vans into mobile, solar-powered classrooms, bringing education directly to over 100 children in 5 villages and training local volunteers as teachers.
Driven by the conviction that every child deserves a chance to learn, Aoun joined the Millennium Fellowship to gain the skills to scale his grassroots model. He aims to prove that with community trust and innovative solutions, real change can start from the ground up.
