Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Navchetna
I grew up in a village and have seen firsthand the concerning problem of young people escaping to marry early. The physical and emotional changes that teenagers go through as they grow from children to adults are at the heart of this issue. Many young people develop strong emotional bonds throughout puberty, and they may act impulsively and make snap decisions like eloping. Sadly, these choices frequently lack foresight and have serious long-term repercussions. Early marriages usually result in a sudden cessation of schooling, especially for young ladies, which limits their opportunities for personal growth and employment. Cycles of poverty, reliance, and restricted access to resources are thereby sustained. The issue is made worse by a lack of knowledge about the obligations and difficulties of marriage. Teenagers are frequently ill-prepared to manage the emotional and material responsibilities of marriage, which strains bonds and jeopardizes futures. Lack of parental supervision, insufficient knowledge of the physical and mental changes that occur during puberty, and firmly embedded social standards are all contributing causes. Poor decision-making and emotional immaturity make the problem even worse. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I will have access to a global network of like-minded people, facilitating idea sharing, teamwork, and mutual learning with others who share my commitment to tackling related social concerns. This network will provide me with priceless chances to improve my strategy and expand my project to address adolescent issues, especially early marriages in rural regions. I will be better prepared to create more powerful and strategic strategies, deal with obstacles head-on, and interact with important stakeholders including neighborhood associations, educational institutions, and civic leaders thanks to the direction and professional counsel provided by this fellowship.
