" "I've always believed that there is goodness in everyone, whether it’s visible on the surface or not. Sadly, that goodness is often overshadowed by the inequalities and injustices in our society. Through social justice work, I hope to help build a kinder, more welcoming world— one that encourages people to be the best version of themselves. Everyone deserves a chance at goodness and happiness, and that can only happen in a world where true equality exists." "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Collegiate Connect
"Collegiate Connect is a helpline designed and run by college students. While many
colleges offer a mental health hotline staffed by professional counselors, the Collegiate Connect introduces an additional system where students could reach out to their
fellow peers for assistance. The peer volunteers working for the hotline will go
through 60 to 80 hours of training prior to their acceptance to ensure that they are
well equipped to provide students in need with proper support. Unlike typical college
hotlines, Collegiate Connect will provide and more approachable and relatable
resource, bypassing the intimidation and awkwardness many students feel when
discussing their struggles with professionals. Many students hesitate to contact current
college hotlines because they feel intimidated, judged, or awkward when speaking
with professionals who may not share their lived experiences. In contrast, Collegiate Connect will allow students to connect with fellow classmates who can empathize
with the pressures of exams, social dynamics, financial concerns, and the everyday
stresses of college life. Collegiate Connect will not serve as a replacement for
professional services, but an enhancement— bridging the gap between formal mental
health care and the day to day needs of students."
