" I care about using communication to make real changes in people’s lives, especially in mental health. The Millennium Fellowship is a chance to learn, work with others, and do more with the projects I'm passionate about. I'm looking forward to building ideas that truly help my community and connect with the SDGs. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: GREAT IFE WASH

So, what is my project about, it is about resolving the issues with the irregularities of water and its non-hygienic state on Obafemi Awolowo University Campus Community. I have identified the issues with frequent shortage and prolonged unavailabilities of water to areas such as the student hostels and staff quarters. The negative impact of this and the consumption of unclean water, not safe for cooking and cleaning, reflects what Goal 6 of the UN SDGs highlights—shortage and lack of access to potable water. This affects sanitation and students' health. From my three years living in the hostels, I found water wastage and leakages to be major contributors. Though poor infrastructure also plays a role, it’s up to management to fix that. I’m working on community-wide solutions in three phases. Phase one: we’re collecting data via questionnaires and usage stats for research to reveal the real problems and propose technological-based solutions. Phase two: I’m leading awareness campaigns on health risks of unsafe water, wastage habits, and leak reports—while collaborating with campus clubs to amplify the effort. Phase three: I will be taking the initiative to carry out sanitations of water tanks in various hostels on the campus.
