Obafemi Awolowo University | Ife, Nigeria | Advancing SDG 4, SDG 10 & UNAI 3

" I do have a strong belief that there's a solution to every inefficiency and if a change hasn't been implemented, I am capable of creating a solution. As a millennium fellow, I can have the mentorship and platform to challenge inefficiency and have the chance to join forces with like-minded change makers to become the changemaker I need to be in order to inspire and birth a lasting change that creates a healthier and more equitable future "
Millennium Fellowship Project: My PLAB story: Charting the UK Pathway
The project was a virtual educational and mentorship initiative organized by the Adegunleye George Adeyemi and executed on 30th October 2025. The project was designed to address the growing information and mentorship gap faced by medical students and early-career doctors seeking structured guidance on international postgraduate medical pathways.
This edition of the webinar focused on the United Kingdom medical pathway, providing participants with clarity on PLAB examinations, General Medical Council (GMC) registration, postgraduate training structures, and long-term career opportunities for International Medical Graduates (IMGs). The project featured accomplished IFUMSA (Ife university medical student association) alumni currently practicing in the UK National Health Service (NHS), who shared firsthand experiences and practical insights drawn from different stages of their professional journeys.
The initiative aligns with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by expanding access to relevant, experience-based career education not typically covered in formal medical curricula. It contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by equipping participants with knowledge necessary to access structured, ethical, and sustainable employment opportunities in global healthcare systems. Additionally, the project advances SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by democratizing access to alumni mentorship and career guidance for students and young doctors from resource-limited settings.
The webinar was delivered through a structured format combining speaker presentations, moderated discussions, and interactive question-and-answer sessions. Over 100 participants attended the live session, demonstrating significant interest and engagement. The virtual format allowed for broad participation at minimal cost, highlighting the project’s scalability and potential for replication.
