" The transformational impact of contributing to healthy processed food motivates me to continue with the SkillSpring project. I aim to empower the young individuals I will meet during this outreach to become better leaders for the betterment of our nation. Additionally, collaborating with other intellectuals and acquiring the necessary skills through the Millennium Fellowship will help broaden my understanding of how to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) mandate, making my impact more tangible and aligned with the SDGs objectives. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: SkillSpring Initiative

SkillSpring Initiative was born from a burden I felt after seeing young children in Ile-Ife begging at bus stops instead of learning or creating value. Since I couldn’t gather every child on the streets, I took the vision into public secondary schools where students from low-income homes could benefit. SkillSpring teaches secondary school students creativity, entrepreneurship, leadership, and practical skills like peanut production, branding, and profit calculation. The goal is simple: help them start small, think differently, and build a pathway out of poverty. By equipping them early, the project directly supports SDG 1 and SDG 8—reducing poverty and promoting decent work.

About the Millennium Fellow

Adekola Ayomide Precious is a dedicated changemaker, social innovator, and student of Soil Science and Land Resources Management at Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria. With a strong first-class academic standing, she combines intellectual rigor with a passion for community transformation.
Her commitment to skill acquisition is deeply personal. From a young age, she embraced vocational training, starting with fashion design at the age of eleven and later learning bag-making at fourteen. This skill became a vital source of financial support for her family when her father lost his job. Over the years, she has mastered various skills, including baking pastries and producing household products, as well as improving her computer literacy. Most of these skills were gained through free community-based programs. These experiences have fueled her desire to provide other young people with similar opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive, enabling them to acquire the skills necessary to become assets to their communities rather than liabilities.
Ayomide’s long-term vision is to make a significant contribution to the agricultural sector through food processing, nutrition research, and sustainable agribusiness. She is also committed to inspiring and equipping young people to create value in their communities. Through the Millennium Fellowship, she aims to enhance her leadership skills, expand her impact, raise awareness about the importance of high nutritional value in food processing, and collaborate with other young innovators to achieve common goals.
