Millennium Fellowship Project: Green Campus Initiative
Green Campus Initiative is a sustainability-driven project led by Millennium Fellow Timothy Olusegun Akinola to promote environmental responsibility and climate-conscious practices within the university community. The project focuses on advancing SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by encouraging waste reduction, sustainable mobility, tree planting, and environmental awareness campaigns on campus. Through stakeholder engagement, student sensitization programs, and strategic partnerships, the initiative aims to foster a culture of sustainability and measurable climate action while building collaborative networks in line with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
About the Millennium Fellow
Timothy Olusegun Akinola is a globally minded Urban and Regional Planning scholar at Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, passionate about sustainable development and climate-responsive urban systems. Raised in Nigeria and actively engaged in community-based initiatives, he has consistently demonstrated leadership in advancing environmental sustainability and youth-driven development. Through projects such as the Green Campus Initiative, Timothy promotes practical climate action, responsible land use planning, and collaborative partnerships. He aspires to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by shaping resilient, inclusive, and sustainable cities.
