" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the opportunity to connect with people who share the same passion for creating positive change. This experience will allow me to expand my knowledge and grow both personally and professionally through the collaboration and exchange of ideas. Most of all, I am excited to see how this project will shape me and the impact it can create in my community and beyond. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: In Her Name
I come from a country where women are often described as "sacred". But that word does not match the reality, and rarely protects them. Domestic violence and femicide are still common, and when I've spoken about it, I've been told the numbers are fake or that these things don't really happen. Many women grow up with the same contradiction, praised in words, and silenced in practice. This project is for women who were never given space to speak. We will create a platform where women from different parts of the world and different backgrounds can share their stories about how culture, tradition, and poverty often shape their lives and deny their rights, especially the right to safety, education, and freedom. These stories will be paired with real data on gender-based violence, education, and inequality. We will start by raising awareness online through storytelling and connecting with others globally. Once we build momentum, we will bring the campaign into public spaces, through posters, interactive art, and things like anonymous drop-boxes where women can share their stories in writing. These small actions can open conversations, build community, and remind people that silence is not the same as peace.
