" I believe that true change begins with empowering young people through education, climate action, and leadership. I'm thrilled to be a Millennium Fellow because it offers a unique space to learn, grow, connect with like-minded leaders and turn ideas into meaningful action. This experience will provide me with the tools, knowledge, and connections to strengthen my initiatives, inspire youth, protect our environment and biodiversity, and build a sustainable and inclusive future for generations to come, continuing to advocate for equal access to education and opportunities for all. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: My Education Matters Peru
My Education Matters is a youth-led organization that seeks to democratize education and promote human rights among young people. It was born from the belief that education should not only inform, but also inspire and empower. However, many students in Latin America, especially high schoolers and those in gap years, lack access to spaces where they can freely express themselves and develop leadership skills.
To respond to this, My Education Matters created the Kawsay Youth Ambassadors (KYA) program, which aims to form youth ambassadors across Latin America through training in human rights, leadership, and project management. Through interactive workshops, currently virtual, with plans to reach schools in person, participants learn to design and implement their own community initiatives.
Ultimately, My Education Matters envisions education as a living force (kawsay means “life” in Quechua) that connects young people, fosters empathy, and drives collective action for a more equitable and inclusive future society.
