" I am truly excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it is a chance to speak for something that is often overlooked: the sustainability of culture and humanity. Many believe it is not a necessity, yet this narrative is deeply wrong. For me, heritage preservation is not only about saving the past; it is about protecting the roots that shape who we are. Through this fellowship, I am proud to stand for this cause and work to ensure our cultural legacy is passed on to the generations yet to come. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Voice of Heritage

My project is about promoting our heritage as a national asset that belongs to everyone — beyond any culture, religion, or background. I aim to highlight the rich cultural heritage across Pakistan, but due to limited resources, I’ll focus on Lahore for now. I’ll be visiting heritage sites in Lahore — old monuments, buildings, and landmarks — and engaging with local people, shopkeepers, and visitors. I plan to hold small sessions and informal discussions near these sites to share their history, raise awareness about heritage laws like the Antiquities Act, and highlight the threats they face, such as neglect and vandalism. These efforts aim to show how even small steps, like not damaging walls or littering, can help preserve our heritage. A key part of the project is also to encourage unity among different cultures, provinces, and religions by showing how this land has always been diverse and shared. I hope to involve local elders to share stories, organize short heritage walks, and possibly engage schools so younger generations feel connected to their history. The overall goal is to create pride and responsibility for our shared heritage. Activities will be carried out based on the climate or situations.

About the Millennium Fellow

Amina Ahsan is a creative and dedicated student of archaeology at the University of the Punjab, Lahore. Archaeology is a profession she has dreamed of pursuing since childhood. Known for her strong academic record, she is an A-grade student who works with focus and discipline to achieve her goals. With a deep interest in ancient cultures and historical preservation, she approaches her studies with both curiosity and determination. Her passion extends beyond the classroom, as she actively participates in fieldwork, research, and public education about culture and heritage. She believes that protecting heritage is also a step towards global sustainability, as preserving history and culture today helps create a richer, more aware, and more connected world for future generations, and this is exactly what she aims to achieve through her MCM Fellowship.
