The knowledge and experiences I gain will help me create a greater impact in projects that promote innovation, sustainability, and cross-cultural understanding, aligned with the UNAI principles and SDGs. I am excited for this to be a platform for developing my skills as well as a transforming event that will influence how I develop as a learner, leader, and global citizen. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Aqua Leap Qatar

Imagine Qatar as a big house with only a small water tank. One of the country’s biggest challenges is its water supply, since it is a desert with no natural freshwater sources. This is where “Aqua Leap Qatar” comes in. Our goal is to make sure taps are used only when necessary. We plan to use smart technology, such as sensors that can detect exactly where and how water is being used or wasted. This would help us quickly fix leaks and make water use more efficient in both homes and businesses.
Alongside the technology, we would run wide-reaching public awareness campaigns and educational programs to show people the importance of saving water and how to do it in their daily lives. By working with tech companies and community centers, we would spread the message and get everyone involved in water conservation.
The aim is to cut water waste, make the most of every drop, and help all Qatari residents use water more sustainably. By reshaping the way people in our community view and use water, we hope to inspire other regions facing the same challenges.

About the Millennium Fellow

Melina Meskin is an ambitious and passionate student at the College of Engineering, at Qatar University. She was born in Canada, resides in Qatar and is currently studying electrical engineering. Attending a Model United Nations (MUN) at another prestigious university in Qatar sparked her curiosity and desire to explore beyond the classroom. Her ambition to become involved in projects and organizations where she could lead, contribute, and develop was inspired by that experience, which made her realise the value of teamwork and critical thinking. She carries that same enthusiasm into her academic efforts today, combining her technical skills with an active, forward-thinking mindset. These interactions allowed her to connect with people from all backgrounds and acquire insight into worldwide issues, changing her outlook as both a student and a contributor to her community.
