" “I want to move from good intentions to proven impact: building inclusive spaces for people with mental health challenges and co-creating practical sustainability initiatives with my campus community.” "

Millennium Fellowship Project: EcoCycle: A Greener Campus, Together.

EcoCycle is a community-led sustainability and waste-management initiative designed to make campus life cleaner, greener, and more environmentally conscious.
The project focuses on three pillars:
Smart Recycling Infrastructure – installing automated recycling bins that identify and sort waste.
Education & Awareness – conducting workshops for students and faculty on recycling, waste reduction, and daily eco-friendly habits.
Community Engagement – clean-up drives, social media campaigns, sustainability challenges, and campus-wide participation.
EcoCycle aims to create a culture of sustainability where every member of the university community contributes to responsible consumption and waste reduction.

About the Millennium Fellow

Tarun M R is a Computing and Data Science undergraduate committed to inclusive, community-driven change. Shaped by his family’s long connection with Shanthivanam—a home for the mentally ill in Tiruchirappalli—and by his bond with a non-verbal autistic cousin, Tarun advocates for dignity, access, and belonging for people with mental health and developmental conditions. On campus, he serves as Vice President of the Entrepreneurship Club and co-created EcoCycle, a behavior-change initiative that promotes data-guided recycling habits. Tarun aims to pair empathy with practical technology and partnerships to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDGs 3, 10, and 12.
