" “It is a collective, prolonged effort rather than a single action that can create sustained progress. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I am excited to connect with both local and global social impact initiatives and social change-makers, so that grassroots efforts addressing local challenges can together build meaningful impact. I look forward to exchanging ideas with other fellows and continuing to explore ways to make the world more sustainable and resilient, now and for the future.“ "

Millennium Fellowship Project: The Green Ribbon (DSC Donation Drive)

Building on the previous year’s student-led initiative, The Green Ribbon, the Year 2025 Donation Drive, recently handed over to the Dean’s Service Corps (DSC, NYU Shanghai’s social impact arm), continued its efforts to support the Tongjiang Love Association in Sichuan. Across two major deliveries—one during midterms and another during final move-out—over 800 kg of donated items were delivered to families in need and to psychiatric hospitals in the mountainous Tongjiang region.
From the start of the 2025 year, 24/7 donation boxes were placed in residential halls T2, T3, and T5, collecting clothing, school supplies, daily necessities, and small appliances. Weekly Friday collection shifts also engaged faculty and staff, significantly expanding participation beyond the student body. The drive not only provided meaningful support to underserved communities, but also strengthened the campus culture of sustainability and social responsibility, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
The second DSC Donation Drive is currently underway during the fall semester, and a potential Swap Shop initiative is being developed on campus, leveraging the Donation Drive as a starting point. These initiatives aim to further promote sustainable practices, encourage resource sharing, and expand student engagement in social impact projects.

About the Millennium Fellow

Grace Hu is a sophomore studying Business and Finance at New York University (NYU), primarily based at NYU’s satellite campus in Shanghai. Having grown up between the ocean and mountains in California and later studying in the global megacity of Shanghai, she has cultivated a passion for sustainability, resilient communities, and environmental responsibility. Grace has pursued these values by successfully leading or collaborating on philanthropic efforts in her hometown to expand access to education, publishing research on circular economy, and serving on her community’s Parks and Recreation Commission to protect hundreds of acres of public land. Building on these endeavors, she aspires to bring the same principles of stewardship and long-term value creation to a career in finance, focusing on impact-driven investment, ESG-focused advisory, or other roles where capital allocation can generate both growth and resilience.
