" "I believe every individual, no matter their past or circumstances, deserves the chance to rebuild their life with dignity. My work in community-based rehabilitation is driven by the vision of inclusive, stigma-free communities where empathy and opportunity replace prejudice and barriers." "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Second Chance: Empowering Marginalized Communities Against Drugs
I want to do a community project for marginalized groups, such as couriers and other people who are neglected by society. I hope to help them better integrate into the community through workshops, community exchange activities and publicity and education, while raising their awareness of the harm of drugs. On the other hand, I also want to encourage the public to look at drug users more rationally, reduce stigma, and make the community more inclusive.
About the Millennium Fellow
Xiaojue (Maureen) Li, a Finance major and Computer Science minor at NYU Shanghai, applies the analytical and problem-solving skills from her studies to her commitment to community-based rehabilitation and the reintegration of marginalized populations. Raised in a household that valued social responsibility and community care, she pursued long-term volunteer work in drug prevention initiatives and conducted behavioral economics research on drug use in high school. Through the Millennium Fellowship, she aims to foster inclusive, stigma-free communities where vulnerable groups can access prevention resources, rebuild connections, and participate fully in sustainable community life.
