" In a seminar, a civil servant once said, 'To change the system, you must become a part of it' and that has stayed with me ever since. The Millennium Fellowship offers the support, resources and network I need to turn my vision into action. I am excited to collaborate with like-minded fellows, learn from diverse perspectives and work towards creating meaningful change for socially marginalized communities, an endeavor I am committed to pursuing in the years to come. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Namma Clean Zone
Our college is situated in one of the prime areas of the city, surrounded by schools and residential communities. However, despite the location, certain parts of the locality have become a garbage dump causing foul smell and distress to the people passing by. There is also a poorly maintained public toilet right next to a school footpath. These areas are unhygienic creating a bad atmosphere for the students and others who walk past it daily. So we as a student community who experience this issue firsthand wish to come together, raise awareness regarding the issue and gather support. We shall lodge a formal complaint to the BBMP, the municipal authority responsible for keeping the city clean, requesting them to take immediate action to clean up the are. If needed we are ready to raise a fund and provide cleaning supplies to support the clean up effort. Our goal is to ensure long term maintenance and not just a one time fix. Public urination is another major concern around that area. We will request the authorities to install CCTV cameras to monitor and discourage this behaviour. To ensure accountability, stricter imposition of fines on the perpetrators is needed.
About the Millennium Fellow
Anupama A, a passionate law student from St. Joseph's College of Law, Bangalore, believes that meaningful change begins with even the smallest step. Growing up in India, she often wondered how one individual could make a difference with a lasting impact in such a vast, diverse nation. Her resolve strengthened with the belief that every action, no matter how small, can spark lasting impact. Guided by this vision she got the opportunity to join the Millennium Fellowship, a platform empowering her to work alongside like-minded change makers towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, an effort she aspires to further advocate for in the future.
