" I am deeply committed to advancing health equity and empowering communities. I believe that when science and creativity work hand in hand, they can expand access to care and design systems that truly uplift others. I am here today because of mentors and opportunities that shaped me, and I aspire to be that presence for others—recognizing their potential and supporting their capacity to grow, lead, and flourish. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Hope Shelf Initiative
The Hope Shelf Initiative is something really close to me. It’s about making hospital waiting rooms feel less cold—less like a place where you just sit in fear—and more like a space where you can breathe, reflect, or feel a little less alone. When someone you care about is in surgery, time moves differently. I remember sitting in that silence, not knowing what to do with all the worry. That’s where this project comes in. I plan to set up shelves in hospitals filled with books that offer hope—stories about healing, resilience, faith, and quiet strength. People can pick one up, read for a bit, and maybe even leave a note behind for someone else. It’s not just about books, rather, it’s about creating a small space of community. A shared shelf equals a shared moment. When someone writes a note of encouragement or leaves behind a message for the next person, it becomes a quiet conversation between strangers, a reminder that they’are not alone. Kind words, a story, and shared feelings are all things that can bring someone just enough hope to get through the next hour. And in moments like these, that can mean everything.
