" I do this work because silence is a form of erasure. Every story, especially those of marginalized communities, deserves to be heard and remembered. The Millennium Fellowship excites me because it transforms individual passion into collective action with global impact. I am ready to collaborate with my peers around the world to ensure representation and belonging in higher education. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Stanford Ducks

Stanford Ducks is an initiative focused on Duck Syndrome, a common condition at Stanford where students appear calm and content on the surface but are silently struggling to keep up internally. The initiative aims to promote social connection and vulnerability throughout the Stanford community, primarily students.

The big project I have been working on is a Social Connection Week, with various events and interactive activities throughout the week. I originally hoped to host it during the fall, but Stanford runs on a quarter system where each quarter is only 10 weeks, with midterms from weeks 3–8 and finals in week 10. Because of this, putting together a full week of events during fall quarter would have been too rushed. I decided to move it to winter quarter, and planning is going smoothly. I have reached out and confirmed plans with several major hubs on campus, including a talking-to-strangers night with On Call Café and a gratitude board at Green Library, which will reach hundreds, if not thousands, of students.

About the Millennium Fellow

Rayne Crenshaw is a sophomore at Stanford University studying psychology and sociology. Growing up in Florida, she witnessed the impact of regressive policies like the don't Say Gay Act and Stop WOKE Act, which directly targeted the communities she identifies with. These experiences inspired her to challenge censorship and erasure in education. Through her project, she aims to combat the whitewashing of history and ensure marginalized communities are not only seen, but heard.
