" "I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because I truly believe in the ability of collective action to tackle the world's greatest challenges. This fellowship is one of the most unique opportunities I have to engage with a community of diverse young leaders passionate about making a more equitable and sustainable world. This fellowship is a place for me to learn, grow, and amplify our collective impact, turning shared visions into tangible change." "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Kajiado Seed Ball Initiative
Our answer to extreme climate crisis is the Kajiado Seedball Reforestation Initiative started by the Rotaract Club of Ngong Hills. The extreme desertification of land in Kajiado county is being caused by prolonged droughts and deforestation for charcoal production; these are causing severe threats to the livelihoods and food security of local pastoralist communities. Our initiative plans to combat this environmental degradation by creating and providing 100,000 indigenous tree seeds that we will be planting in approximately 10 hectares of degraded land, while empowering local youth and women through hands-on training and environmental education, and creating a community led, scalable model for ecosystem restoration and climate resilience. Our initiative supports both UNAI Principle 9 (Promote Sustainability through Education) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
