" Engineering is about designing efficient systems for a better world, and I believe human health is its most critical component. My work with the walking club is driven by the conviction that wellness should be accessible, sustainable, and communal. I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow to transform this local initiative into a scalable model. I am excited to gain skills in leadership,project development and management and collaboration.The skills and network I gain will be instrumental in refining this project to ensure it's not just an activity, but a tangible contribution to global health and community well-being, directly aligned with the UNAI principles and SDGs. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Strydz

Strydz is a youth-led initiative designed to combat sedentary lifestyles by making fitness accessible, sustainable, affordable, and communal. We’re a group of friends and accountability partners who encourage each other to hit a daily goal of at least 10,000 steps. Instead of expensive gym memberships or draining and time intensive workout routines, we believe in the power of a good walk something we can all do. We move beyond the high-pressure, high-cost model of traditional gyms, promoting walking as a free and simple activity that can be seamlessly integrated into daily life. It’s about fitting movement naturally into your day, whether it’s a walk between classes, work, running errands or an evening/morning stroll. Regular walking strengthens the heart and muscles, improves circulation, and boosts energy levels. Mentally, it clears the mind, reduces anxiety, and releases endorphins that enhance mood. By fostering a culture of consistent movement, we directly address SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. We aim to improve participants’ physical fitness, reduce and manage stress, and promote mental wellness.Strydz is more than a step challenge. It’s a community empowering young people to take ownership of their health through small, consistent actions, proving that well-being benefits are within everyone’s stride.
-Goals I hope to achieve are ;
Recruitment Goal ; Recruit and onboard 30-50 active members.
Activity Goal ; Achieve a 70% weekly participation rate among members (i.e., members who log and achieve their step goal for most days of the week).
Impact Goal ; Have at least 60% of active participants report improved fitness, reduced stress, or a greater sense of community by the end of the Fellowship.
Community Goal ; Host 2-4 group walks to strengthen community bonds.

About the Millennium Fellow

Sheryl Waudi Odera is a passionate and driven aeronautical engineering student at the Technical University of Kenya, whose vision for a healthier world is as ambitious as her aspirations for the skies.
