" I'm excited to be part of a network that drives social impact by advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. The programme will give me more confidence and skills to give out a new approach to quality education that incorporates financial literacy and drives market development. This programme will help refine my approach to doing that. I am excited to be given the platform and network to push out SDG 4 and try to build children to be financially mature before they are forced to learn from mistakes. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: PocketWise Programme

The project aimed to conduct workshops in schools and webinars for future teachers to influence education policymakers. Financial literacy is a critical yet neglected area for Botswana's youth, with many lacking essential skills like budgeting and saving. To address this gap, the Pocket-Wise initiative was created to integrate practical financial education into government school curricula.

About the Millennium Fellow

Godfrey Moemedi Moreti is a final year bachelor of accountancy student at the highest institution of learning, the University of Botswana. He's a Mokgatla who stays in the bright village of Modipane with his lovely parents and siblings. Even though he had received little financial education from his parents, even before starting his studies at UB, he discovered a significant gap in financial education between himself and his peers on basic skills and knowledge everybody has to have. Upon studying his bachelor's, the gap widens with others who do courses that do not address financial topics. He primarily finds the courage to employ financial education in the free education we receive in Botswana's education system. Godfrey aspires to be a finance professional in an environment that has financially conscious individuals who have developed themselves on that aspect from an earlier stage. Having studied a diploma in Sustainable Development he's got to blend his passion for Financial systems with sustainable finance practices like market development and financial literacy. Financial education programs in earlier education can help bridge this gap by equipping students with essential financial knowledge and skills before they reach a point where they have to learn from their experiences. Without a good practice of personal finance practices, a lot we aspire to be and to have can be less possible.
