Millennium Fellowship Project: Mind space
Mind space is a collaboration in mental health wellness and pomotion, encoperating mental health coping strategies particulrly for school going youths in secondary schools, high schools and also colleges, the motivation for this is that in our communities there is an increased incidence of sucide, depression and other mental health issues which are so painfully debilitating that they often lead to death and school dropouts in some cases.
About the Millennium Fellow
My names are Tumisang Shirley Mthembo. I come from a society where mental illness remains heavily stigmatized. The stigma is the silence and shame around it and also not acknowledging the barriers that mental struggles cause. A mental illness friendly world needs conversations. While open discussions are rare and those who speak out are not always directly labeled as weak, there exists a pervasive silence, one that coincides with rising suicide cases, often met with indifference. This troubling disconnect has compelled me to raise awareness and actively advocate for mental health, in hopes of fostering a culture of empathy, understanding, and psychological
