" The Millennium Fellowship will provide me with the skills and knowledge to establish projects that will have a significant social impact. The extensive alumni network as well as the association with the United Nations will help me to connect with like minded individuals and to gain insight and experience into working with charities, NGOs and IGOs. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: The Warm Plate Initiative

The Warm Plate Initiative is all about making sure homeless people in London get a hot meal when they need it most. To start with we will cook and pack fresh meals every 2 weeks and personally hand them out in areas where people are struggling. The idea is simple: food is a basic need, and no one should have to go hungry, especially in a city like London. I’ll be working with volunteers to cook meals, raise funds for ingredients, and partner with local shelters or community groups to reach as many people as possible. We’ll also focus on meals that are easy to carry and eat, like rice dishes, soups, or sandwiches. This isn’t about fixing homelessness overnight, but it’s a small way to show kindness and help people get through tough times. A warm meal can mean a lot, it’s comfort, energy, and a reminder that someone cares.

About the Millennium Fellow

Julia Madden is a second year student at University College London studying a BSc in Human Sciences. She is interested in bringing a biological perspective to social issues especially focusing on women's rights and bodily autonomy. Since moving to London from Guernsey in the Channel Islands she has noticed the significant impact of homelessness in London and has based her project on this issue. She currently volunteers at Hinde Street Community Church to provide food for people affected by homelessness and would like to increase her impact through the Millennium Fellowship.
