" "I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the platform to turn my passion for justice into tangible impact, using the law not just as a set of rules, but as a shield to protect and a compass to guide communities toward fairness." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Front Against Abuse

Front Against Abuse Initiative aimed at providing protection to individuals being abused and counseling to the victims.
During the Millennium Fellowship Program, Front Against Abuse focused on providing practical relief, emotional support, and dignity to survivors of abuse within our community. Our key accomplishment was a major outreach initiative to a safe home that shelters survivors of gender-based violence.
1. Major Outreach to a Safe Home for Survivors
-We organized and carried out an impactful outreach visit to a rehabilitation home that supports individuals recovering from abuse. During this outreach, we:
-Donated essential household and cooking materials, helping ease the daily burden on the home’s caretakers.
-Provided clothes, sanitary items, soap, and other hygiene supplies to support survivors’ basic needs and personal dignity.
-Contributed food items, ensuring the home could feed its residents comfortably in the weeks following our visit.
This outreach directly benefited survivors of abuse, offering both material support and emotional encouragement. It also strengthened the relationship between FAA and the safe home, setting the foundation for continued engagement and long-term support.
2. Community Engagement and Sensitization
In addition to the outreach, we also held conversations with the caretakers and some of the residents to better understand the challenges survivors face in their recovery journey. This allowed us to:
1.Gather insights on gaps in survivor support systems.
2.Identify areas where future projects can create sustainable impact.
3.Build trust within the community and refine our approach to survivor-centered advocacy

About the Millennium Fellow

Bukirwa Daphine is a final year of law student, standing at the point where years of study meet the reality of legal practice. Her passion lies in the places where law touches human lives—human rights and the protection of vulnerable groups. She enjoys breaking down complex cases into clear ideas and constantly asking what the law means in practice and how it delivers justice. Her interests also stretch into labour rights, regional integration, and the growing link between law and technology. She is driven by curiosity and to her ,studying law isn't just about passing exams; it’s about learning to use it as both a shield to protect and a compass to guide in the pursuit of fairness.
