Millennium Fellowship Project: BizzBuddy: Empowering Campus Entrepreneurs
BizzBuddy is a comprehensive project created to support student entrepreneurs at the University of Dhaka which has been selected as an official project for the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2025.
The project's main goal is to build a single, supportive ecosystem for the many students who run small businesses on campus to help with their financial needs. These businesses often include selling food, clothing, cosmetics, and books.
BizzBuddy aims to solve the common problems these students face, such as a lack of business skills, limited access to money, and poor networking. By fixing these issues, the project directly supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
How BizzBuddy Works: A Full-Circle Support System
The project is designed as a "full-circle support system" that helps entrepreneurs from start to finish. Here is the planned process:
1. Create a Network: The first step is to build an online and offline platform that connects all the scattered student entrepreneurs from different faculties and residential halls. This network will also include alumni and external partners to help students collaborate, find resources, and access new customers.
2. Provide Tailored Training: Once entrepreneurs are connected, BizzBuddy will arrange workshops to build their skills. These won't be generic lectures. Instead, they will be carefully tailored to the students' specific business types. For example, a food vendor will learn about hygiene management, while a cosmetics seller will learn about branding. Trainers will be experienced entrepreneurs and NGOs.
3. Secure Financial Support: The project will actively work to solve the funding problem. This includes hosting sessions with financial institutions to improve student access to SME funding. BizzBuddy also plans to create a dedicated seed fund pool through donations, alumni contributions, and partnerships.
4. Improve Efficiency: BizzBuddy will provide technological support to make businesses run more smoothly. This includes coordinating supply chains for raw materials and offering digital marketing tools so students can focus on their products instead of just promotions.
5. Offer Key Support Services: Recognizing that business is stressful, the project will offer legal and mental health services. Students will get legal advice for contracts and disputes, as well as psychological support to help them balance academic pressure with their business.
6. Build an Incubation Hub: Finally, to ensure long-term sustainability, a dedicated incubation hub will be set up. Here, emerging entrepreneurs will get mentorship, guidance, and even paid internships with NGOs and other enterprises to learn professional operations.
7. Monitor and Recognize: After completing an internship, participants will be monitored for six months to track their progress. Those who successfully complete the process will receive certificates and stipends as recognition, which motivates them and inspires other students.
