" "As a first-generation learner and Indigenous youth from the Chittagong Hill Tracts, I have witnessed the deep inequalities that silence many voices like mine. Through my work in promoting Indigenous rights, mental health, and youth empowerment, I am committed to creating spaces where every community is heard, valued, and included. The Millennium Fellowship is a platform for me to amplify these voices, turn advocacy into action, and shape a future rooted in justice, cultural dignity, and inclusive development." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Uplifting Indigenous Voices

"Uplifting Indigenous Voices" is a grassroots project that aims to empower the voices of indigenous students and is a platform for them to share their stories. The aim of this project is to connect stories, history and culture to educate a larger demographic about indigenous culture, to eradicate barriers and to create social and
cultural understanding. As of now the project has hosted campaigns both online and offline focusing on active participation of both Indigenous and general students with community dialogues, tea talks, distributing leaflets, social media and anti-bullying campaigns. The project will also host a Cultural Showcase inviting indigenous artists to promote Indigenous art, music, food and cultural heritage. This showcase
would create cultural exchange and better understanding of different cultures within an audience that represents parts of the majority. The project has currently been working on Dhaka University campus, and will also campaign in more campuses in the future. The project will bridge the gap between different cultures, promoting cohesion and an inclusive campus. In the long term, with dialogue and cultural
empowerment of individuals, the project wishes to promote more harmonious communities beyond these campuses.

About the Millennium Fellow

I am Liton Tripura, an undergraduate student of Economics at the University of Dhaka, and an Indigenous youth activist from the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh. As a first-generation learner from a marginalized community, my academic and social journey is deeply rooted in the desire to bridge inequalities, uplift underrepresented voices, and contribute meaningfully to inclusive development. I am a fellow of the United Nations Youth Advisory Group (UNYAG) Bangladesh who promotes Indigenous rights, mental health and youth empowerment. I have initiated an action project titled Uplifting Indigenous Voices which aims at promoting the rights, Cultural Living heritage promotion and recognition, and anti-bullying mindsets of the Indigenous communities. Liton aspires to make a statement on social justice, sustainable development, and inclusive policy making by informing grassroots activism, research, and advocacy.
