Millennium Fellowship Project: Hear Me, Heal Me

The current state of mental health awareness in Bangladesh is alarming. The stigma associated with this matter and the failure to recognize the need for help, lead many young people to hang their heads down and suffer in silence. I hope my project will assure them that their sufferings are not inconsequential, that fighting their demons makes them resilient - not frail. I want to help them seek clinical aid. With this in mind, I plan to collaborate with mental health professionals and arrange awareness programmes in educational institutions. Also, in places where the senior family members frequent, because in a hierarchical society like ours, their awareness or lack thereof significantly impact the well-being of the sufferers. Small support circles, both online and offline, will be created to offer the sufferers safe spaces to express their feelings and bond with others including recovered individuals. I expect to launch storytelling campaigns on online platforms for young people to share their mental health journey, their stories of pain, processing and healing. Also, I shall strive to depict the quiet strength of those who live with mental health disorders and challenge the misperception of their weakness.
