" My passion lies in using finance and strategy as tools to drive inclusive growth and empower communities. The Millennium Fellowship excites me because it offers a platform to strengthen these skills collaboratively, amplify my work in financial literacy and women’s empowerment, and create impact aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. I am eager to leverage this opportunity to innovate, learn, and contribute to building a more equitable and sustainable future. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project RedRoots

Project Description
Project RedRoots is a menstrual health equity initiative founded with a core mission: to ensure that menstruation never restricts a woman’s right to education, opportunity, or dignity. As the Project Founder and Executive Project Leader, I have built this initiative to challenge deep-rooted stigma, bridge critical knowledge gaps, and expand sustainable access to menstrual health solutions across underserved communities in India.
Project RedRoots operates through a three-pillar strategy: Educate → Enable → Empower.
Educate:
The project delivers interactive, culturally contextual menstrual health and hygiene workshops in schools and community settings. These sessions demystify menstruation, promote safe hygiene practices, and actively involve family and community stakeholders to normalize conversations around periods.
Enable:
To combat product insecurity, the initiative distributes reusable, biodegradable menstrual pads and trains women in their responsible usage and cleaning. This ensures continuity of access while reducing reliance on costly, non-sustainable alternatives.
Empower:
Project RedRoots goes beyond awareness by equipping women with livelihood skills in sustainable pad production, entrepreneurship, and micro-enterprise management. This model not only supports environmental sustainability but also creates consistent income streams for women.
During the Millennium Fellowship, Project RedRoots significantly scaled its impact — expanding awareness programs, strengthening its training model, and establishing multi-sector partnerships. As a result, the project has reached over 9,000 beneficiaries, trained 70+ women in sustainable entrepreneurship, and built a stronger foundation for national replication.
At its heart, Project RedRoots is a movement that advocates menstrual equity as a fundamental human right — nurturing communities where women have the knowledge, tools, and economic power to take control of their own well-being.
