" Being someone who is filled with the zeal to learn and grow, I feel that the Millennium Fellowship is the best opportunity that there is to take my aim of community service to another level. It will not only provide me with a stage to materialise my thoughts and dreams but also widen my spectrum by connecting me to like minded fellows so that we can all collaborate together and work to the best of our abilities. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Uday - Rising Together

My fellowship project titled Uday- Rising Together, is a brainchild of my dedication and dream to ensure quality education for all by specifically addressing the systemic barriers and complexities faced by high school students belonging to disadvantaged sections. The Indian education system does provide the building blocks - i.e. basic educational facilities for all. However, numerous kids on completing middle school find themselves lost with respect to career options and available opportunities. So, my project will be aimed at building a community of 100-200 high school children in the initial phase and hold free of cost career counselling sessions for them. Secondly, I’m planning to curate a website or google drive to provide free access to study material for standards 9th to 12th both for school examinations as well as entrance exams. Lastly, I'm also planning to build a help desk to assist these students in college applications to ease their burden. Since I'm the sole contributor in this project, I'm starting slow but I will carry on this project even after the fellowship to incorporate other target groups as well so that my dream of rising together with all turns into reality.

About the Millennium Fellow

Ishika Khatri is a curious, young and determined Political Science graduate at Miranda House College, University of Delhi. Born and brought up in a small town in Delhi, Ishika had big dreams growing up and she has always done everything in her power to chase them and turn them into her reality. Her innate compassion and empathy have always inspired her to think about others first and make small yet meaningful impact on their lives. She has been associated in community work and social outreach throughout her college years and aims to continue doing the same. Her belief that Education is the driving force behind everything has led her to focus her project on the SDG related to education and help children from underserved communities to realise their dreams.
