" Problem solving and confidence are the two set of skills that I bring to the table in almost every aspect of life. THe Millennium Fellowship for me is not just another opportunity but a platform where I get to connect with some of the brightest minds to explore the intricacies of the real word and its issues. For years I have found a sense of calmness and happiness when I teach children who really deserve it and nothing has ever stopped me from continuing that no matter how busy I might be and I think this is the reason why I love doing what I do. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Udaan

I want to start a collective group project with some like-minded peers having a the same goal as mine focused on providing free education to underprivileged students. The initial plan is to connect with students in nearby government schools and onboard them, along with their schools. Although many of these students may not regularly attend classes, they understand the importance of education. We will specifically target these students and enlist the help of volunteers from top colleges in the North Campus, Delhi University. These undergraduates will be academically proficient and possess a strong sense of empathy for social causes. They will tutor these underprivileged children free of charge, covering the academic curriculum and addressing the challenges faced in government schools, where there is often a significant lack of quality education and opportunities. We plan to invite the students to our colleges after our regular hours, using the college classrooms to conduct lessons. I aim to hold classes at least three times a week. As our volunteers work with the students and we receive positive word-of-mouth referrals, we hope to onboard more underprivileged students and expand our reach. As the number of students increases, we will also recruit more capable, socially driven volunteer tutors to support them

About the Millennium Fellow

Soniya Yadav is a calm, very patient and a complete extrovert if you were to describe her in a couple of words. She is currently in her final year studying at Shri Ram College of Commerce, India. Apart from her impressively good communication and public speaking skills, she also might seem to be a little cold due to her resting face which honestly is completely opposite of when she approaches or is approached by someone. One thing that stands out about Soniya is how calmly she carries out almost any problem be it related to work or life in general. She always says that she like to take her time with things and that certainly shows off in the outcome. Coming from a background where she has seen both the western culture and rapid urbanisation, she has also equally experienced the authentic rural villages where her grandmother lives which is why whenever she talks about something so to say "social" it almost comes out naturally as if she has experienced it. If you love being competitive and always go by first principles approach when solving problems then she might be the most ideal person to reach out to.
