" Why Emmanuel Richi is Excited About the Millennium Fellowship?
Emmanuel Richi is deeply excited about the Millennium Fellowship because it offers a rare opportunity to connect with like-minded young leaders across the globe who are committed to creating sustainable change. For him, the fellowship is not only a platform for developing leadership and project management skills but also a community that values collaboration, innovation, and social responsibility. He sees it as a chance to sharpen his ability to design impactful initiatives while learning from diverse perspectives that will enrich his understanding of global challenges.
Why He Does the Work He Does
At the heart of Emmanuel Richi's work is a desire to uplift communities and protect human dignity. Growing up, he observed how structural inequalities, harmful practices, and limited access to resources held people back. This fueled his commitment to anthropology, politics, and activism as tools to amplify voices that are often ignored. His involvement in grassroots politics, his support for girls escaping harmful cultural practices like FGM, and his academic focus on applied and medical anthropology all stem from his belief that change begins with both knowledge and action.
For Emmanuel Richi, the work he does is not just a career path—it is a mission to bridge cultures, empower the vulnerable, and contribute meaningfully to global development. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: GIRLS for GREEN LEADERSHIP
Girls for Green Leadership (GGL) is a youth-led environmental initiative aimed at empowering young girls in schools and universities to become eco-leaders and climate action advocates in Tanzania. The project will establish eco-clubs, conduct sustainability competitions, launch awareness campaigns (both in-person and via social media), organize confidence-building sessions, and implement community clean-up drives. By engaging young women and their peers, GGL seeks to create a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility that continues beyond the project.
About the Millennium Fellow
Emmanuel Richi is a passionate and ambitious young leader from Tanzania with a growing reputation in politics, community service, and academia. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, a field he chose out of deep curiosity about human societies, cultures, and the ways they can be transformed for the better. Beyond academics, Emmanuel Richi is actively involved in politics, serving in his ward where he works to mobilize support and represent community interests. He is committed to using leadership as a tool for positive change, particularly in areas of youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and social development. In August 2025, he took a part in an internship at a Tarime camp, supporting girls fleeing female genital mutilation, which demonstrates his dedication to human rights and social justice.
Outside of studies and politics, Emmanuel Richi enjoys sports ,especially football. He is an avid fan of Simba SC, Manchester City, Real Madrid, the Taifa Stars, and the England national team, finding in football not just entertainment but also a source of motivation and teamwork spirit.
