" Intellectual conversation with like-minded peers drives my adrenaline to continue doing the work that I do. It makes me further believe that together we can. The knowledge I'll gain from the Millennium Fellowship will enable me to streamline my work with the SDGS to sustainably impact communities. I am excited to create in more ways than I thought I could. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: GIRLS for GREEN LEADERSHIP

Girls for Green Leadership (GGL) is a youth-led environmental initiative aimed at empowering young girls in schools and universities to become eco-leaders and climate action advocates in Tanzania. The project will establish eco-clubs, conduct sustainability competitions, launch awareness campaigns (both in-person and via social media), organize confidence-building sessions, and implement community clean-up drives. By engaging young women and their peers, GGL seeks to create a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility that continues beyond the project.

About the Millennium Fellow

Zahara Kobusinge is an ambitious , versatile law student at the University of Dar es Salaam. She was born in Kampala, Uganda ,but currently lives in Dar es Salaam. Since her primary school when her mother handed her the novel "Tears of the Desert" by Halima Bashir, "Left to Tell' by Imaculee Illibagiza and "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini , Zahara was always known she would be loud about the importance of education, women's rights, refugee rights and ubuntu. Whilst in high school, Zahara used her voice as a poet and debator to make her classmates aware about the pains of women living in third world countries due to abject poverty and lack of quality education. Zahara plans to use her law degree to do just that and further advocate for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
