United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 60,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2025 on 7,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 290+ campuses worldwide (less than 5%) were selected to host the 4,500+ Millennium Fellows.

" Maternal and child health during pregnancy is one of emerging issues in my society and I want to make the best impact I can. Communication and intercommunal skills are one of the skills needed to achieve such. I am sure being a fellow I would be able to acquire and build up on those skills. Doing these social impact make feel alive, and also give hope to the people. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: KIDSCREEN: A Child TB Screening Campaign

PROJECT DETAILS/DESCRIPTION: KidScreen: A Child TB Screening Campaign is a Millennium Fellowship project committed to advancing SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being by improving early detection of Tuberculosis (TB) among children in Sokoto State. Through school and community-based screenings, we aim to protect vulnerable children from preventable illness while promoting equity in healthcare access, reflecting the United Nations Academic Impact principle of addressing global health challenges.
In line with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, we collaborate with local health authorities, community-based organizations, and youth networks to strengthen TB control efforts.
Measurable Goals (by the end of the Fellowship):
Screen at least 2,000 children across schools, orphanages, IDP Camps and clinics.
• Facilitate referrals and follow-up care for children with presumptive TB.
• Conduct sensitization sessions for parents and caregivers.
• Build sustainable community partnerships to sustain TB awareness and screening beyond the Fellowship.

About the Millennium Fellow

Maryam Muhammad Abubakar is an inquisitive, decisive and empathetic person. She is a medical student at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria. She was born in Nigeria and to date studies in Nigeria. For as. As long as she could remember, she had always had a passion for studying Medicine, specifically about women's health. This passion of hers drove her to think about the best ways she could impact the health of women. Throughout her career years, she has been involved in different skills acquisition to make the best impact she could to improve maternal health. She is planning to continue to take part in medical outreach in the future. She plans to specialize in obstetrics and gynaecology after medical school to focus more on giving to that area of the community.
