University of Ghana | Accra, Ghana | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 3

" My commitment to mental health advocacy and global health equity is fueled by a desire to create systems of care where none exist. The Millennium Fellowship offers a unique platform to sharpen my leadership, strengthen my impact, and collaborate with peers passionate about sustainable change. I'm excited to align my work with the SDGs and use research, empathy, and community action to transform student wellbeing and drive long-term public health solutions in Africa and beyond. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Mind and Body Connect Project
The Mind and Body Connect project seeks to improve the physical and mental health of both the students and indigenous people in and around the Korle Bu community. There has been a great surge in issues of mental health in recent times and it is no news to hear about the mental state of some medical students. On the other hand, the need for literacy on nutrition, hygiene and first aid cannot be overemphasized. Firstly, to address physical health, we plan to conduct workshops in schools and local communities around the Korle Bu society on nutrition, hygiene and first aid. We plan to engage many social media platforms through videos, flyers and other infographics. We also plan to collaborate with local health professionals to provide guidance as well. Secondly, to address mental health, we plan to establish peer support groups in the medical school as well as organise mental health awareness sessions involving many professionals. We also intend to set up an anonymous support platform where students can share their concerns and receive the appropriate guidance. In summary, this project aims to empower communities by improving the physical and mental health of students and community members.
